Has it ever seemed like you have no control over your own destiny? Life is just going along, like a river swiftly moving a log downstream, and you feel like you’re that log. It can seem impossible to change course sometimes, but it is more than possible, and in fact, it’s imperative that you do. I was singing and speaking to a group of homeless folks yesterday morning with this message in South Carolina on our Follow Your Dreams Tour and thought I’d share it here as well. If you believe in God or even in some kind of divine providence, then it stands to reason, you most likely believe that you were placed into this present time in the location you are. Having said this, it also stands to reason that God has a plan and purpose for your life. For those who believe in reincarnation, and I don’t, they have come back to redo their life and get it right, so therefore, they also believe, even to a degree. So if you’re on this earth, in whatever community right now, what is the plan for your life? Do you know? Do you want to know? Own Your Destiny!
I am writing this blog from the perspective that no matter what you believe at this point, in your heart there is a quest for the truth, even if you might be wrong. If this is true, the Lord says that you will find the truth. So, you are on the right path and if you keep searching, you will find it. Just don’t stop until you do.
Now, since I’m a Christian, I believe I’ve found this truth and you might disagree and that’s totally okay. But, if we are both on a quest for the truth, we have a point of agreement to work with. What would it hurt to indulge me just for a bit to hear me out, except perhaps a bit of your time. If you walk down this path with me for a bit and find that I’m wrong, we can say good-bye and you walk away and on occasion we might say hi, or even spend some time together in the future. I’m not here to force anyone to believe what I’ve found, as I wouldn’t take that wonderful, personal journey of discovery away from anyone. It would be like putting two people together, telling them they are to be married without going through a period of courtship. That’s just wrong!
I believe this, and I’ve experienced it, so this is not theory for me personally. Psalm 139:16&17, “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were appointed for me, When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape]. 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!” AMP
Since the Lord has written His plan, His dream for our life, like a wonderful parent would want the best for their child, on a scroll in heaven, wouldn’t we want to see it? How precious are His thoughts over us? Wouldn’t we want to know? Now, since He wrote this, doesn’t it just make sense that He’d also want us to know how He feels and to discover what He wrote? So how are we to find out? Own Your Destiny!
You see, He talks to us everyday and He’s also made a way to Him through His Son, Jesus. So, how do we get started on this journey of love, friendship, romance, the sharing of secrets, love, etc.? Simply by asking Jesus to show us and then get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Some folks want to spoil our personal journey with Him by adding a bunch of laws, do’s and don’t’s, I say rubbish. Start where you are on your quest for truth and you will find it, if it’s really what you want more than anything else or He’s a liar. I guarantee you, He’s not a liar.
Many people, in many different circumstances and locations globally, feel like they are not in charge of their destiny, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Our destiny is charted and guided by our choices and the declarations we make with our speaking. Our choices and words are like the rudder on a ship and will get us to those destinations. Once we make the choice, if it’s to pursue our God-given dreams, we have all of heaven at our disposal to see them accomplished. Try that one on for size. NO ONE, can stop us from our destiny, ONLY OUR CHOICES will get us to our destination, therefore, we can’t blame anyone else for not realizing the destiny He has planned for us, except ourselves. He is more than enough to get us there. Not saying it’s easy, because most times those choices seem impossible and like a lonely path, but we are never alone, and never powerless going down the path of Truth. OWN YOUR DESTINY!
