As I consider the title of this post, my heart is heavy. Perhaps, because of the focus of our outreach ministry, we hear this more than most, yet it is so prevalent in our society. Hopelessness can lead to a very bad situation, suicide. Why do people consider suicide? Janiece and I started our “THERE IS HOPE!” tour in May 2013. We are determined to bring hope to as many as we can and counter HOPELESSNESS…
Hopelessness – Having no hope; despairing. Incurable. Having no possibility of solution; impossible.
Hope – is the state which promotes the belief in good outcomes related to events and circumstances in one’s life.
Psalm 139:13-18, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.”
A lot of people are unaware that the Lord loves us so much that he created an awesome destiny and purpose for our lives before we were born and even wrote it in our very own book in heaven. This is for us personally. No one else can walk in this because they don’t have the authority to do so, nor do they have the grace for it.
Hopelessness, comes from constant negativity, rejection, repeated failure, broken relationships, and pain. It can be like handfuls of dirt falling down from above on us over a period of time. Sooner or later we feel buried under its weight and there seems to be no way out.
There is hope though and the secret is in the above scripture. Regardless of whether we want to believe it or not, we have a purpose and a destiny and it is good. There are those who would try to keep us from discovering it, but we can win this battle if we look up. Look up to the One who can and is wanting to help us. He is the only One who can show us what He wrote about us. We must ask Him to show us and to help us get there. He will. Look at verse 17 about how precious are His thoughts towards us. These are the things He thinks about when He sees us. Then He adds to that by saying the number of these precious thoughts toward us are beyond our ability to count. Meditate on this for a long time. Let it sink into your heart.
If He loves us that much, then why are we listening to anyone or anything else. Each of us has a glorious purpose and destiny on this earth. We have a plan that has been written down for our lives and it is good. Why wouldn’t we want to find out what that is and go on a journey of discovery to walk it out? Why not? What could we possibly lose that would be more precious than that? I can answer that, “Nothing!”
I’ve been face down in the mud many times thinking that my life was over and yet, by His grace, I got up again and kept on walking and things kept getting better. It took a while, but I wouldn’t trade anything for where I am now. In all of those hard times, it was then I discovered who He is and that the plan He has for me is really a wonderful thing. I can attest to the scripture above. The Lord Jesus Christ has an amazing journey for us and He will walk every step of the way with us if we will just invite Him to do so. I challenge you! Go for it. You will discover a new world beyond your imagination.
