Overcoming depression can seem like a hopeless situation, especially when one feels like they are falling down into a deep dark chasm from which there seems to be no escape, let alone hope. Many in the medical community will say that medical treatment is the only way for help, to which I declare not necessarily so. I’ve walked within the clutches of depression during various times within my life, and my wife, Janiece, almost lost her life to its deadly stranglehold. I am speaking from experience and not some textbook theories and studies that many may hold up as truth, but in the end may do more harm than good. (Please note: I am not saying that some of these methods do not help some to some extent and even serve to provide some hope and prolong life.) I am saying that to totally rely on this as The Truth is a very treacherous path to walk. OVERCOMING THE DARKNESS WITHIN & DEPRESSION!
My wife and I met in 1991 and were married in 1994. When I first met her, she was just coming up out of the grave, so to speak. Just a few months prior, the doctors had given up all hope and had told her parents to just keep her comfortable until she died, so they did. Within a few short weeks though, a miracle happened and her life has never been the same.
She went through a very traumatic injury eight years prior that was one of the main factors in sending her down this deadly path of depression. After several years of surgeries and almost eight years of in and out of mental institutions and hospitals with numerous diagnosis and prescription drugs, the medical community couldn’t do anything more to bring her back. She just kept falling deeper and deeper into the clutches of death. Towards the end, she was only existing, but it was long enough for the miracle to take place.
Over the last eighteen years now, I have documented her journey in her new biography, “Sentenced To Death, Destined For Life: Tell My People I Love Them! – The Janiece Turner-Hartmann Story.” One of the reasons we wrote the book was to get her message of hope out to some of those who we might never get to meet personally. After it was completed, we prayed over it asking the Lord to touch and heal those who might read it. In the past month, we have heard two reports of the Lord healing people as they are reading it. He is honoring that prayer.
Many in our society believe the medical community is like a god and to many it has become their idol. If you don’t believe me, just try and touch it and see what happens from their response. You might even wonder what you really see behind their eyes, if you dare to look close enough. Political Correctness would say, “We need to simply do what doctors say, no questions asked. After all, they have the degrees and years of schooling to prove it.” This is not totally true. While it is true that they study much information and learn over a period of years, we need to also remember the fact that some of their studies are very one-sided and don’t take into consideration other known facts and truths. We need to be responsible for our own lives and therefore, we need to look at all the information available and then make intelligent decisions for ourselves and our loved ones. This is truth and we have that God-given right through our Constitution as Americans. We also have the right to freedom of religion, although many of our rights are being challenged right now.
Janiece and I don’t believe the way that we do simply because of some words we have read on the pages of some books, including the Bible. We believe the way that we do because of that which we know and have experienced. I am not writing this post to persuade anyone to choose one way or the other, but perhaps more to offer some information in order to be able to make an intelligent decision or at least to ask more questions and search for oneself for the truth.
Over the years we have ministered to many people on a personal basis. We have seen the side effects of certain drugs on people’s health. Some have been permanent or so it was said. In all of our searching through the Bible, in our personal relationship with the Lord, and from our multitudes of questions we have asked, we have found some answers. Even to a lot of people who go to a church meeting on a weekly basis, they don’t understand the powers that are at war against us behind the scenes in the spirit realm.
I grew up in a small town in a denominational church that believed that if we prayed to the Lord, He would heal people if it was His will. We didn’t see many people getting healed at all. I, being just a beginner on this journey, started questioning the pastor and elders about what I was reading in the Bible. It didn’t line up to what they were telling me. Boy, did I stir up a hornets nest and got stung a few times, but I wouldn’t let this go. I said, “Jesus, Your Word says that we should lay hands on the sick and they will get well and to also cast out demons so that people could be free.” Mark 16:15-18. I didn’t see this happening then and it is only happening on a small scale some 30+ years later in the Christian community as compared to what is getting ready to happen. A lot of people simply don’t believe what they preach or say they do. They called me a hypocrite! Interesting… Most of the things Jesus talked about and did in the Gospels was to heal people and deal with the demonic, setting people free. Now, most people go to the medical community to get drugs with serious side effects to cope with the pains and bondages they are trying desperately to get freed from and then usually get addicted to the very medications that are supposed to help. Why is this so? (PLEASE NOTE: We are not saying that someone should just quit seeing their doctor and taking their medications. This could be very harmful as this could cause serious side effects and deadly complications. If you read the book, you will see that Janiece worked with her doctor as she came off the medications.)
It is our mission to see people healed and set free. Most drugs only mask the situation and that for only a season until the body gets used to them. Then they either up the dosage or prescribe something stronger that is usually more deadly. I am not blaming anyone, it’s all they know for now, but that is changing. The general population is starting to catch on and they are changing the face of society in what they are demanding.
One thing that needs to happen, is the uncovering of the demonic realm like in the days of the Gospels. Back in the late 80’s, I was working with a group and we were helping teenagers come out of the occult. If you know one thing about the occult, most people who go in aren’t able to get back out. These kids had witnessed demonic manifestations beyond imagination, had participated in sacrifices and had become enslaved in it. One night as we were praying for this one teen, who weighed less than 130 pounds, he suddenly grabbed a knife and starting coming at us. There were four of us who tried to hold him down so we could get the knife out of his hand and keep from getting hurt. That was superhuman strength. It was a demon and it was one of the first times I had ever looked into ones eyes. The fear that came over me was surreal. Needless to say, it left by no choice of its own because we used our authority in Christ over it, and the young man was freed by the grace and power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
When people say they are hearing voices, the tendency of our society is to place them in mental institutions and give them multiple drugs. The truth is all of us hear voices to some degree or another whether it be our own thoughts, past voices from previous conversations we’ve had, angels, demons or even the Lord. Our mission and experience has been to free people from the power of the spirits of darkness and help them receive healing from the Lord. If you hear or read Janiece’s story you will find out first hand what she experienced, too. Each person has to make a choice. What is the truth? Is the medication really working? Will it really bring freedom and healing or is it going to just mask everything over for a while?
Janiece’s biography, which is a documentation in her own words and the testimonies of those around her of how the Lord reached down from heaven and restored her fully back to life, provides a modern day testimony to another book, the Bible, in which its last chapter was penned almost 2000 years ago. It’s not the only testimony in our generation, but it is one that is documented. No one should have had to have lived through what she went through and we hope that because of it, many won’t need to go through it themselves. If we can help just a few, that would be great, but we want to help all we can no matter where they are in the world.
We do not have a lot of money presently as we have put so much into getting the story out as best as we could. In fact, many times we’ve gone without so we could give out of what we do have in abundance. We have a testimony and we share it with others as we can and we minister and pray, too. We have seen many receive healing and freedom and we know we’ve only just begun. We have more info on this website along with radio interviews and videos. You don’t have to purchase the book to hear some of the story. We documented the story in a book in more detail for those who wanted to have a deeper understanding of the miraculous and read about the little things that made the biggest impact in her life. The book goes into far greater detail than we are able to do in any public meeting or ministry. The proceeds from it will also help bring in the funds we need to help those who need it the most and cannot afford it. It will also help in our new project as we are now pursuing producing it into a movie to share the hope of HIS LOVE, HOPE, and MIRACLES to our generation. The Lord is no respecter of persons. What He has done for one, He is showing He can do for all who desire it. Dare to question! Dare to believe that all things are possible for a God Who is real today and for us in our generation! There is HOPE! When we understand the supernatural forces behind depression, the other ailments and diagnosis that go along with it and deal with it, changes come quickly. OVERCOMING THE DARKNESS WITHIN & DEPRESSION!

Some Depression, Suicide Attempts & Suicide Statistics
In the United States, around 3.4% of people with major depression commit suicide, and up to 60% of people who commit suicide had depression or another mood disorder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_depressive_disorder
Suicide is a major, preventable public health problem. In 2007, it was the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for 34,598 deaths. The overall rate was 11.3 suicide deaths per 100,000 people. An estimated 11 attempted suicides occur per every suicide death. http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/suicide-in-the-us-statistics-and-prevention/index.shtml
According to these statistics it means that there were approximately 380,578 attempted suicides in 2007. How many of these were permanently scarred or maimed? Think of how many families and friends were affected in that one year alone. We are told that most people have a direct influence of at least 200 people. If this is all true, it means that over 76,000,000 million people were touched in one way or another, some more than once in one year alone. This is unacceptable! There is HOPE!
